Savannah Artist Launches Crowdfunding Campaign for Savannah Cartography Series

Savannah, Georgia – Artist Christina Robinson, founder of CLR Creations, has launched a crowdfunding campaign to bring the Savannah Cartography Series to life. The collection of six original abstract cartography paintings explores the city's waterways, ecosystems, history, and cultural heritage through contemporary landscape painting.

The series will feature four 9 × 12 inch paintings, one 18 × 24 inch painting, and one signature 18 × 36 inch work. Each painting begins with an authentic map of Savannah before evolving into a layered composition of texture, color, and topography. Rather than documenting landmarks alone, the collection seeks to reveal the stories carried within the landscape, from tidal marshes and maritime forests to historic neighborhoods and the people who have shaped the city across generations.

The project draws inspiration from Savannah's winding rivers, barrier islands, native ecosystems, Gullah Geechee heritage, Indigenous history, maritime commerce, and public spaces that continue to define everyday life. Together, the paintings offer a contemporary interpretation of place that celebrates both the natural environment and the cultural legacy of coastal Georgia.

"Every map tells us where a place is," Robinson said. "I'm interested in what a map cannot show. Every river carries stories. Every neighborhood holds memories. Every landscape leaves an imprint on the people who experience it. Through this series, I hope to create paintings that invite viewers to see Savannah not only as a destination, but as a place where history, ecology, and community remain deeply connected."

The crowdfunding campaign will raise funds for professional archival materials, historical and ecological research, studio production, documentation, and exhibition preparation. Supporters will receive exclusive behind-the-scenes updates throughout the creative process, with select contribution levels offering limited edition prints, signed artwork, early access to original paintings, and other collector rewards.

The Savannah Cartography Series continues Robinson's exploration of abstract cartography, an artistic practice that transforms geography into visual narratives of memory and identity. Through layered acrylic textures and expressive compositions, the work reflects the belief that landscapes shape who we become and continue to influence us long after we leave them.

Community members, collectors, and supporters of the arts are invited to join the campaign and become founding supporters of the project. Every contribution helps preserve Savannah's stories through original works of art while supporting the creation of a collection inspired by one of America's most distinctive coastal cities.
